The Seattle Center Monorail is the nation's first full-scale commercial monorail system which provides fast, direct transportation between downtown Seattle and Seattle Center. The train departs every 10 minutes. Monorail platforms are located downtown on the third floor of Westlake Center (5th Ave. & Pine Street) and at Seattle Center (adjacent to the Space Needle).
The Seattle Center Monorail is a favorite part of the Seattle skyline and the Seattle Center, home of the Space Needle, Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum, Pacific Science Center, and a host of theatrical and cultural experiences.
The Seattle Center Monorail was built for the 1962 World's Fair in Seattle and provided a crucial link between the fairgrounds at Seattle Center and downtown amenities. Today, the monorail carries more than 1.7 million passengers per year.
