A true Broadway sensation, Wicked looks at what happened in the Land of Oz from a very different perspective. Long before Dorothy arrives, another girl is born with emerald-green skin. She’s smart, fiery, misunderstood, and she possesses an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships … until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.” With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” Wicked has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.” From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, the untold true story of the Witches of Oz transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story. When three women made the pact of solidarity on their summer road trip, no one ever expected that they would soon become the most legendary outlaws in the country. The gang of motorcycle riding, man-eating women known as El Dorado were a fearsome trio of renegades redefining what it meant to be a woman on their own terms with no compromise. How El Dorado found themselves out running the law, robbing corner stores at gunpoint, and seducing their unsuspecting victims while in high heels, fishnets, and nail polish are things legends are made of. With an original Can Can soundtrack featuring the vocal stylings of Seattle’s own Brent Amaker, The Legend of El Dorado showcases performances of original choreography performed by the Can Can Dance Company and a delicious Market-fresh menu.
We all know the hits of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Booker T. and the MGs — but what does Memphis soul sound like today? Southern Avenue gives you a 21st-century taste, along with Vanessa Collier, who picked up the sax at age 9 and has been called “amazing” by Buddy Guy.

Joan Didion, a perennial front-runner for the “Best Living American Writer” title, found a powerful and poignant way to talk about grief in her acclaimed memoir, The Year of Magical Thinking. Now the award-winning book is an equally acclaimed play, which The New York Times called “an indelible portrait of loss and grief … a haunting portrait of a four-decade-long marriage.” This 90-minute one-woman performance recounts the fallout from the sudden death of the author’s husband, novelist John Gregory Dunne, shortly before the couple’s 40th wedding anniversary. That devastating period also saw the death of the couple’s daughter, Quintana, from a battery of acute and chronic illnesses. See Didion’s story of crippling grief and her ultimate, inspiring journey to acceptance when The Year of Magical Thinking comes to Falls Theatre at ACT in Seattle.

Café Nordo is proud to present The Champagne Widow at Nordo’s Culinarium in historic Pioneer Square. Written by Opal Peachey, composed by Annastasia Workman and directed by Billie Wildrick (Annie, The 5th Avenue), The Champagne Widow will be set in the underground caves of France, where Champagne’s most luxurious bottles of bubbles come to life and sing the stories of the women who made them famous. “Men did not write women’s history and women did not write women’s history. The stories of the widows (or Veuves in French) who made Champagne into the luxury brand it is today are disappearing in the sands of the hour glass,” said playwright and lead performer Opal Peachey. The Champagne Widow will tell the unsung stories of businesswomen Barbe Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin, Louise Pommery, Mathilde Laurent-Perrier and Lily Bollinger. Café Nordo integrates food, drink and theater into a multi-sensory audience experience and The Champagne Widow will feature a four-course meal inspired by the story of Champagne, included in the ticket price. Available for purchase will be a “Flight of Widows” with four glasses of Champagne, from the houses of Veuve Clicquot, Pommery, Laurent-Perrier and Bollinger. To bring the intersectional feminist message of the production home, Nordo will also offer a “Flight of Women in Wine Today” featuring wines from estates where women of diverse backgrounds hold the CEO title in 2019.
